On April 12th an extraordinary Ruddington Parish Council meeting was called in the wake of worries about the closure of Thomas’s Greengrocers – the latest of several long established independent traders here who’ve gone out of business or decided to shut up shop. Rushcliffe Borough Council’s “Local Plan” reaches a very important stage this Thursday, with a decision on whether it will move to the final “consultation” phase. The publication draft of the Local Plan Part 2 is due to be discussed at their Full Council meeting on April 26th. The most significant aspect of this plan for Ruddington residents is that it would recommend getting rid of three long-designated Green Belt areas on the edge of our village to accommodate up to 350 new houses. Councils To Negotiate on Former Youth Centre

The latest vandalism to Ruddington’s former Young People’s Centre on The Green seems to have finally prompted some action from Nottinghamshire County Council – which owns the disused premises. The building has been empty since December 2016 when “The Body Centre” ran into financial difficulties and was forced to close. Previously it had been Ruddington’s dedicated Youth and Community Centre but was leased out by the County Council to fitness firm Project Body UK in 2014 (for a planned ten year period) due to government spending cuts. Motorists who enjoy shaving a little off their journey time by taking the estate route between Wilford Road and Loughborough Road in Ruddington may be disappointed this week. Asher Lane Planning Inquiry Concludes

Today was the final day of the Public Inquiry into the appeal against the decision by Rushcliffe Borough Council to refuse planning permission for 175 homes off Asher Lane. The Public Inquiry into the refusal by Rushcliffe Borough Council to grant planning permission for the building of 175 homes off Asher Lane in Ruddington began yesterday (Tuesday 17th April) at Rushcliffe Arena under the appointed Inspector, Nick Fagan. Residents on Ruddington’s Musters Road estate and along Asher Lane will find out this week whether a property developers’ appeal against the refusal of adjacent Green Belt housing will be successful. Ruddington Kids’ Wildlife Group Wins National Prize

A special presentation is taking place in the Education Centre at Rushcliffe Country Park this morning after our local Wildlife Watch Group scooped a national award! Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust‘s Ruddington activities for 8 to 13 year-olds topped entries from across the country to win them the title of “Wildlife Watch Group of the Year”.
