No Village Centre Car Park Charges…. Yet!

Ruddington residents, traders and visitors WON’T have to pay to use the Church Street Car Park. That was the decision reached unanimously by Councillors at a full meeting of Ruddington Parish Council last night (Tuesday 30th January). However that is not going to be the END of the story… Currently the only car parking charges in Ruddington are at our Country Park where new pay & display machines (right) with a nominal £1 fee were introduced by Rushcliffe Borough Council in their visitor car park last summer. With our increasing village…

Camelot Construction Complaints

The name of a contractor building new homes in our village has recently become “mud” for some residents and traders on a Ruddington estate! HTC Construction is currently erecting the first half-dozen houses of its “Lace Gardens” development – which will eventually see 28 new homes put up at the corner of Brookside Road and Woodhouse Gardens. Two existing houses were cleared from the current site which otherwise used to be a green, open space. The closure and demolition of the current Malmic Lace factory building adjacent is imminent in order to…

The date for the 2018 event is to be the weekend of 23rd/24th June, and all proceeds will again be shared between the charities Save the Children and Action for Children. Organiser Jane Piggott says: “If any Ruddington residents would like to open their gardens this time, please contact me as soon as…

Interview with the Inspector

During the last six months in particular, Ruddington seems to have been hit by an unprecedented crime-wave. As well as the usual vehicle and shed break-ins, we’ve reported a spate of burglaries, local traders being targeted and hanging basket thefts. We’ve even had a distraction thief being wrestled to the ground in our village centre by passers-by until police could get here to arrest him. Only yesterday we reported another break-in at Wayte Court. But is it REALLY that BAD and, if so, is a lack of local policing to…

Landmere Lane Burglary

Rushcliffe Police are reporting another burglary on the outskirts of Ruddington – at Wayte Court, off Landmere Lane – last night (Tuesday 23rd January). It happened between 5.15pm and 6.15pm when the intruder got in via a rear door. Officers say: “It is unknown how the offender gained entry. An untidy search was made of all rooms, and items including handbags were stolen.” Police are linking this crime to two other, similar burglaries during Tuesday – on Musters Road in West Bridgford and in East Bridgford – so they believe a…

Is This The Paddington Train?

Yes it is! 60163 “Tornado” will be blowing into Ruddington next month – and that’s the locomotive featured in the film “Paddington 2”! It’s coming here as the star attraction during the second weekend in February at Ruddington’s Great Central Railway. You may or may not know that this A1 Peppercorn Class is Britain’s newest steam train, built only in 2008. As part of the celebrations for her 10th year in service she will be appearing in our village for the first time. Despite her young age, Tornado is already iconic as…

2018 is certainly shaping up to be a big year for Ruddington’s Mustard Seed Project! As regular readers will know, this is the fundraising group set up by James Peacock Infants School teachers Sally Squires and Jayne Henson inspired by their visit to Uganda in the Summer of 2016. Following the Project’s formal establishment as a registered charity, and the election of a board of trustees, they are returning to Uganda to visit the communities they are supporting. JPS assistant head teacher Sally and teaching assistant Jayne, along with St Peters Junior School Deputy Head Ian Mawer…

And Then There Were Four…

… That’s the number of vacancies on Ruddington Parish Council following ANOTHER resignation this week. This time it’s a Councillor who has only served for seventh months. Robin Crinage states: “I feel I am unable to carry out my role of Parish Councillor as I would want to due to my commitments.” This latest departure comes less than two weeks after no one came forward to contest empty seats in Easthorpe Ward and Manor Ward (which will now be filled by co-option) and only a week after Flawford Ward Councillor John Noble stood down,…

Jasper’s Café to Close

It’s less than a year since Ruddington’s newest coffee house began trading on Dutton’s Hill. Yet, since March 2017, Jasper’s Café has managed to establish itself as one of our most popular village venues to meet up for a cuppa, a chat and a bite to eat. Now it will have to close. Jasper’s was the idea of Paul Carver and Cathy Hatfield who’ve always dreamed of owning their own coffee shop. As Bar Six traded mostly in the evenings they thought it made perfect use of a very suitable building during the…

The Children’s Society’s Regional Retail Manager, Dominique Scott,…
