Distraction Crime in Ruddington

Ruddington Parish Council warns it has been made aware of some incidents of distraction crime that have taken place in the village recently. One resident had £90 taken from her purse whilst speaking to a man of Eastern European appearance outside the Co-op on Church Street. The lady was approached and asked if she had any change. Ruddington’s heritage railway has confirmed it will continue with the rest of its planned autumn and winter events as scheduled. This follows the sudden cancellation of the second half of the much publicised “Superhero Weekend” at its Mere Way site yesterday (Sun 29th October). This Saturday 4th November sees the annual Great Central Railway Nottingham (GCRN) “Firework Spectacular” starting at 7.30pm – with gates open at 5.30pm for hot food, a funfair and miniature train rides. “Eyesore” Mast Causes Complaints

Ruddingtonians have taken to social media to express their concerns about a new fifty foot tall mobile telecommunications pole which was erected in our village last weekend. Rushcliffe Borough Council planners approved the new mast on Wilford Road in July after no objections to the proposals were received – despite the fact that it is on Green Belt land at one of our rural village gateways. Beware Battery Thieves!

Construction machinery was left without power and speed safety signs went dark after thieves struck again in our area at the weekend. Rushcliffe Police are still on the lookout for the voltage-loving villains who stole several batteries from equipment being used in the works on Flawforth Lane in Ruddington overnight on Sunday 22nd October. Elderly and vulnerable residents in Ruddington are being urged to be vigilant after a spate of distraction burglaries in the area. Nottinghamshire Police officers are advising them not to answer the door to any unexpected callers and to report anything suspicious.
