Ruddington Village Museum is celebrating its half century this month – by putting on a very special anniversary display.
‘50 Objects from 50 Years’ is a new one-day exhibition coming to St Peter’s Rooms, showing off unusual and rarely seen artefacts from the museum’s collection. It will feature fifty items, each representing a year of the museum’s collecting history. The display will comprise unusual and rarely seen exhibits – many of them historically tied to Ruddington, and most of them donated by local families. Organisers promise this event is therefore set to be as much a celebration of the local area as it is of our Village Museum itself. Objects will range from two 17th century pewter plates found in the Methodist Chapel to an Edwardian Post Box-shaped money box.
Curator Gavin Walker said: “Preparing for the exhibition has been a wonderful opportunity to review the items collected over the past 50 years and pick some interesting pieces to display. All the objects tell a story about their owners or the village, so please do join us.”

Gavin says they’re also looking for volunteers to work on their collection of some 9,000 objects. “It’s a bit like the Forth Bridge” he says. “We also have to take care of the stored pieces not on permanent display and to add new artefacts to the museum’s Accession Register.”
‘50 Objects from 50 Years’ is being held in the main hall of St Peter’s Rooms this Saturday 22nd September 2018, from 10am to 3:30pm. Everyone is welcome – and admission is FREE.
