Big Increase in Fly-Tipping Fines

A Ruddington nature reserve is one of the recent sites blighted by fly-tippers which has led to a fine being served against the offenders. The contents of this illegal dump in the entrance to Wilwell Farm Cutting on Wilford Road (pictured above) were sufficient for investigators to trace their source and so identify the culprits. Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) reports that its action on rogue fly-tippers has increased hugely in Rushcliffe since the beginning of 2021 – with over 70 fixed penalty notices given out to those found blighting local spots…

Will Tips Reopening Reduce This Fly-Tipping Menace?

It’s hoped eyesore scenes like these over the weekend in Ruddington will become less frequent once all Nottinghamshire County Council recycling centres reopen for residents – then businesses – over the next eight days. This latest fly-tip (top) of a mattress and other household waste was captured on camera by local photographer Paul Witney along Asher Lane. Rubbish including a child’s buggy and artificial Christmas tree was also dumped illegally on a verge alongside Wilford Road, obstructing the footpath (right). Waste from both of these locations will now have to…

Fly-Tipping in Ruddington Continues

Frustration is growing that the illegal dumping of waste seems to be continuing unabated around our village despite Council and Police efforts to thwart the criminals who’re doing it. It was reported last month that a vehicle belonging to suspected fly-tippers had been seized but further incidents have since followed, including this most recent one.  Elissa Hawksworth was again the first to alert us to the latest pile of old fridges and freezers (top photo – courtesy of Paul Witney) which have been dumped at the entrance to NFU Mutual and Barn Farm…

Ruddington’s Fly-Tipping Menace

Rushcliffe Borough Council is warning that the illegal dumping of waste on our streets or in our countryside will not be tolerated – with heavy fines and court bills for anyone identified doing it. It follows another fly-tipping incident in Ruddington yesterday (pictured above) when resident Adam Martyn contacted us to report that 2 big double fridges and 3 large fridges had been dumped just off the A60 on Asher Lane. Adam also called the Council – and has applauded the speed with which their contractors ‘Streetwise‘ came along to clear up the…

Good News for Ruddington Recyclers?

If you’re trying to reduce the amount of landfill you generate on our increasingly polluted and wasteful planet, you may be pleased to hear of a new trial taking place at Nottinghamshire recycling centres. Juice cartons and Tetra Paks cannot be placed into Rushcliffe Borough Council‘s ‘blue’ bins and so villagers have to travel elsewhere to recycle them – otherwise just throw them away with the rest of our household waste. Existing carton recycling sites in Rushcliffe, nearest to Ruddington, include Asda at West Bridgford, Morrisons at Gamston and Bridgford Road…

Ruddington Fly-Tippers Beware

Rushcliffe Borough Council is promising even more focus on tackling the nuisance of fly-tipping, waste offences, littering and dog fouling in 2021, thanks to a new partnership. The authority has revealed it’s teamed up with Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) for a one-year trial to build on its existing tools to find and, where necessary, prosecute those who flout the rules. WISE is a specialist supplier of environmental crime services to councils across the UK. Since Tuesday (January 5th) the new Enforcement Officers have had the powers to issue fixed penalty…

Ruddington Recyclers Beware

Villagers who use Ruddington’s closest household waste recycling centre in West Bridgford are being warned that, from the start of next month, we won’t be able just to turn up there! That’s because Nottinghamshire County Council is introducing a new, trial, online booking system for residents needing to visit the Rugby Road facility, which will begin on September 1st 2020. Councillor Phil Rostance, Vice Chairman of the Communities and Place Committee at the County Council, explains: “When we reopened the site back in June we implemented temporary traffic management arrangements to…

Alleged Fly-Tippers Have Vehicle Seized

Individuals who allegedly fly-tipped fridges on the A52 near Wheatcroft Island have had their vehicle seized by Rushcliffe Borough Council officers and Nottinghamshire Police. It follows several incidences of the items being dumped in the area, leading to the use of CCTV capturing those in the act during December 2018. It’s just been revealed the white van linked to the fly-tipping (pictured top) was confiscated on January 11th on Grant Street in Nottingham. This is the second vehicle to be seized in connection with illegal waste dumping – after a red van…

Fly-Tippers Strike Again!

Despite the good news from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) last Thursday that individuals who allegedly dumped fridges on an A52 lay-by close to Wheatcroft Island – and were suspected of being responsible for dozens of other fly-tips around Ruddington this year – had had their vehicle seized (pictured below), a similar incident has now happened again just a few hundred yards away! Following an alert this morning (December 20th) from resident Elissa Hawksworth that yet more fridges had been dumped inside the entrance to a farmers’ field along Flawforth Lane, RBC’s clean-up contractors ‘Streetwise‘…
